Becoming Myself Again
After a decade of living for everyone else, she finally gave herself permission to exist on her own terms.
I spent my thirties being everything to everyone. The perfect daughter, the dependable colleague, the friend who always showed up. I was so busy being needed that I forgot to ask what I needed. The burnout came slowly, then all at once. My therapist asked me one day: 'What do you do just for you?' I couldn't answer. That silence was the most honest thing I had said in years. The journey back to myself has been slow and sometimes uncomfortable. But every small act of self-honoring — a morning walk, a boundary held, a no spoken without apology — has felt like coming home.
